Research Statement

In very general terms, my research interests are the multidisciplinary application of science and engineering to problems in ecological design and agriculture. I am particularly interested in natural water treatment systems as energy- and capital-conscious engineered solutions to water pollution.

My dissertation research is an evaluation of natural treatment systems for the control of the pesticide chlorpyrifos at the watershed scale. The four components of this research are: to quantify sorption of chlorpyrifos to surfaces in natural treatment systems, model vegetated ditch reactors for chlorpyrifos removal by partitioning, use GIS-based watershed models to determine the total land area required for remediation to meet water quality criteria, and suitability analysis techniques to determine optimal locations for ditch implementation.

Please contact me for a full research statement.
